Window Safety: Each year in the USA, over 15,000 children fall from open windows. Keep your child safe from accidents in the home. Use window guards to prevent a child from opening the window and falling out. You want to be sure that you can still easily open one window in each room in case of fire.
If you have blinds in your home either tie the blind cords up out of reach or use window blind safety tassels or other devices available. If you don't want to use one of these devices, make sure that each cord of your blinds are separate and not tied together. Children can get caught in these cords and strangle.
Door Safety: Door knob covers and door locks help keep children out of rooms and other areas that might pose a hazard such as a swimming pools or a garage. When choosing a door knob cover make sure it is sturdy and easy for adults to open in case of an emergency. Door locks should be placed high out of reach of young children. You should use a door lock even if you have safety gates, fences and/or door alarms.
Door stops help prevent pinching and crushing injuries to fingers and hands. Be sure any safety device for doors is easy to use and is not likely to break into small parts, which could be a choking hazard for young children.
