A diaper bag is an essential baby item. Here you'll store everything you'll need for your baby when you leave the house. If you don't already have an idea of what you'll need and the style you want then read this guide to learn more about the types of diaper bags available.
Think about the places you will want to take your baby. Like to Grandma's house, over night trips, day care or just to the grocery store. You can use one bag for every trip but I found it nicer to have a large diaper bag and a small diaper bag.
While most diaper bags come with a shoulder strap, more and more are coming in backpack form. This is great for hands free care of your baby. The backpack style is also popular with dads.
Breastfeeding will generally require less space because you won't need to store bottles, formula and the like. So some breastfeeding moms prefer a small bag. If dad or another care giver is using a bottle for some mommy-free time you may wish to think about bottle holders for that purpose.
If you decide to use them, cloth diapers will require more room in a diaper bag, both the clean and the dirty. You'll want a large bag to store dirty diapers, or at least enough room to bring them home with you.
Some men don't mind a diaper bag that looks like a diaper bag, some prefer a less obvious bag. New designs for dad don't look anything like a diaper bag, but still have the convenient features. Some women also prefer a sportier or more business-like look to their diaper bag. The messenger style combines the features and looks of a diaper bag and a purse and have a more sleek, contemporary design.
